Primo Ish-Hurwitz (2001) is een Nederlands componist. Daarnaast ontwikkelt hij als artistiek leider nieuwe concertvoorstellingen. Hij studeerde aan het Conservatorium van Amsterdam bij Willem Jeths en Meriç Artaç, en studeert momenteel aan de Royal College of Music bij Ed Bennett. In 2022 werd zijn werk 'Listen' voor stem en ensemble bekroond met de gedeelde eerste prijs tijdens de International Alba Rosa Viëtor Composition Competition. In hetzelfde jaar ging de concerttour 'Toonzetters' in première op het Oranjewoud Festival, een initiatief van Ish-Hurwitz, waarin een portret werd geschetst van 20 Nederlandse componisten van de nieuwste generatie. De tour en daaruit volgend muziekalbum werden door de nationale pers zeer goed ontvangen - zo noemde NRC het "een project dat wellicht historisch zal blijken." Ish-Hurwitz kreeg opdrachten van het Concertgebouworkest, de Strijkkwartet Biënnale Amsterdam en het Internationaal Liedfestival Zeist, en zijn muziek werd uitgevoerd in onder meer het Concertgebouw, Wigmore Hall, Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ en De Doelen, evenals in Spanje, Italië, België, Portugal en Japan. Als arrangeur is Ish-Hurwitz regelmatig actief voor Amsterdam Sinfonietta en het Nederlands Blazers Ensemble, waarbij grootschalige arrangementen zijn uitgevoerd in onder meer de Elbphilharmonie, het Konzerthaus Berlin, het Concertgebouw, de Philharmonie Köln en de Alte Oper Frankfurt. Momenteel werkt Ish-Hurwitz aan 'Een flat met duizend ramen' met Joke van Leeuwen, het Chaos String Quartet, Ariane Schluter en Jos van Kan in opdracht van de Strijkkwartet Biënnale Amsterdam.
ENGLISH - Primo Ish-Hurwitz (2001) is a Dutch composer, who studied at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with Willem Jeths and Meriç Artaç, and is currently studying in London at the Royal College of Music with Ed Bennett. In 2022, his work 'Listen' for voice and ensemble was awarded the shared first prize at the International Alba Rosa Viëtor Composition Competition. In the same year, the concert tour 'Toonzetters' premiered at Oranjewoud Festival, an initiative by Ish-Hurwitz, portraying 20 Dutch composers from the newest generation. The tour and resulting music album were praised by many Dutch papers, NRC calling it "a project that might prove to be historic". Ish-Hurwitz has been commissioned pieces by the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the String Quartet Biennale Amsterdam and the International Song Festival Zeist, and his music has been performed at venues such as Wigmore Hall, Royal Concertgebouw, Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ and De Doelen, as well in Spain, Italy, Belgium, Portugal and Japan. As an arranger, Ish-Hurwitz is frequently active for Amsterdam Sinfonietta and the Nederlands Blazers Ensemble, with large-scale arrangements being performed at the Elbphilharmonie, the Konzerthaus Berlin, Het Concertgebouw and the Alte Oper Frankfurt. Ish-Hurwitz is currently creating a music theatre series with the Vienna-based Chaos String Quartet and Dutch star actress Ariane Schluter, produced by the String Quartet Biennale Amsterdam.
